Describe the results/achievements of the activities
In July 2016, The government of Rwanda hosted a Ministerial Summit on Bonn Challenge with representatives from East AFrica, Central Africa and SADC Region. The meeting closed with a Kigali declaration on Forest Landscape restoration, calling for governments, international community to make this a priority for the next planning phase including SDGs.
Another Regional Ministerial Summit for the Bonn Challenge was hosted by Malawi Government with representative from SADC region and was highly attended by senior government officials from about 14 countries with participation from Rwanda, Burundi, Ethiopia and Congo. With the Lilongwe call to action, The meeting recognized and endorsed Kigali Declaration as a panafrican declaration by high level government officials and was recommended to be endorsed by the African Union Summit.
In September, 3rd Annual Partnership meeting on AFR100 was convened by NEPAD in Niamey, Niger and brought together representatives from 37countries. The meeting endorsed Kigali declaration and Lilongwe call to action and recommended through Niamey call to action , fast track the implementation of FLR commitments under AFR100 and Bonn Challenges.
Other various events with high level representation of African leaders on AFR100 including high level visibility in Paris COP23, CBD COP, land degradation Neutrality among others. It has also been a year of harmonizing targeting process for AFR100 and Bonn Challenge with other restoration initiatives.
Another milestone have been to support countries to access resources enabling them to implement restoration. Both technical and financial resources were mobilized and resulted in the following:
ROAM was completed for Malawi, Ethiopia, Mozambique, Burundi.
GCF proposals focusing on restoration were developed for Kenya, Rwanda, Mozambique and are waited to be finalized and submitted. New big funding into implementation of restoration was mobilized from the world bank among other donors.
New countries have made commitment to join AFR100 including Nigeria, Botswana, South Africa, among others.

Challenges/obstacles encountered in the implementation of this Resolution and measures taken
Several initiatives needed to be harmonized to enable countries focus on implementation beyond targeting process. This has been a major investment for most of partners including UNCCD, IUCN, NEPAD, FAO among others to support this harmonization process. AFR100 targets, LDN targets and Bonn Challenge targets have been harmonized and it was easy to refer to each others.
It was also challenging to keep track of all events happening that supports restoration among other many responsibilities. We have been working closely with IUCN members and governments to support the implementation of this resolution.
