Member KUA notes that "For KUA and the community networks we support here in Hawaiʻi, it should be noted that the State has begun to do some work that supports the sentiments of this Motion"
KUA also notes that "Currently, a draft Community Based Fishing Area proposal for Moʻomomi, Molokaʻi, the first and original –now 25 year- effort that gave birth to the original CBSFA law, lies within the Department of Land and Natural Resources Division of Aquatic Resources awaits the initiation of the administrative hearing and rulemaking process.
A number of rural and Native Hawaiian community groups work on possible rule packages and community outreach to discuss the idea as they await the hearings for Moʻomomi."
Process underway for sending IUCN notice of support for CBNRM to the Governor of the State of Hawai'i, its Department of Land and Natural Resources, Hawai'i Legislators and Congressional delegation, the Office of Hawaiian Affairs, and all County Mayors and Councils.
