Policy influencing/advocacyAlong with the assistance of an intern from the University of Cambridge a report was completed on the development of a financial strategy to increase the efforts of Belize Association of Private Protected Areas (BAPPA). BAPPA now represents 70 private landowners and has been integral in the strengthening the protected areas system and the protection of biological corridors throughout the country. In 2015 as a result of Whitley Fund for Nature’s support to BAPPA, the Government of Belize officially recognized Private Protected Areas as a part of their National Protected Areas system. This was due to the enactment of the National Protected Areas System and Protected Areas Conservation Trust legislation. Completed
