In implementing this Resolution your organization has worked/consulted with...
Other non-IUCN related organisations:
I have worked on making submissions to the COP process since 2007 and attended Cop 15, Cop 16 an COP 21, during that time I worked with NGOs,media and with primarily delegates from developing countries
Implementation
Indicate and briefly describe any actions that have been carried out to implement this Resolution:
ActionDescriptionStatus
Policy influencing/advocacyAt COP21, I spent the first day at a meeting of hundreds of delegates from the developing countries; 2 degrees was not even considered to be a option; they were all advocating that the rise in temperature should be well below on 1.5 degree The fossil fuel lobby was very prominent; perhaps that was the reason that there was not one reference to fossil fuels in the document. In the press room there were multiple excellent scientific presentations that sadly did not seem to influence the drafting of the document; Their presentations stressed the urgency which seemed to be ignored in the negotiating room. The IUCN resolution claims to support the agreement because it mentioned nature-based solutions.On-going
Please report on the result /achievement of the actions taken:
The action that I have taken was to point out some of the systemic constraints that appear to prevent a strong ambitious outcome. I continually intervened particularly in suggesting that they should strive for consensus with a fall back of 75% not at Article 22 which was in the document, but after each article; I believe if that had been done Ban Ki Moon would have had an outcome that would have been closer to a global vision. I was at the 2016 IUCN
Congress and tried to intervene but was told i could not because I was only a member of a Commission
What challenges have you encountered in implementing this Resolution and what measures have you taken to overcome them?:
Whie I agree with most of the resolutions, this not one that I would try to implement. At one time at the conference I said that most of the resolutioelinesns would be a wonderful compilation of material for ahigh school or university course.
Identify and briefly describe what future actions are planned for the implementation of this Resolution:
Future ActionDescription
Policy influencing/advocacyfiling a petition with the Canadian Commissioner on the environment about Canada's failure to address the urgency of climate change
