Policy influencing/advocacy

At COP21, I spent the first day at a meeting of hundreds of delegates from the developing countries; 2 degrees was not even considered to be a option; they were all advocating that the rise in temperature should be well below on 1.5 degree
The fossil fuel lobby was very prominent; perhaps that was the reason that there was not one reference to fossil fuels in the document. In the press room there were multiple excellent scientific presentations that sadly did not seem to influence the drafting of the document; Their presentations stressed the urgency which seemed to be ignored in the negotiating room. The IUCN resolution claims to support the agreement because it mentioned nature-based solutions. |
