Convene stakeholders/Networking ECO has convened discussions amongst the interested policy community at our annual conference and at other's conferences to press for more funding for the Department of Conservation for biodiversity conservation research. We have supported increased funding for researchers in what is now called the Science Challenges, especially the Natural Heritage and the Sustainable Seas programmes. On-going Full activity report
Policy influencing/advocacy ECO has lobbied intensively with many NZ colleague organisations and individuals for increased funding for marine and terrestrial biodiversity - and biosecurity - research. This combined pressure has had some success. On-going Full activity report
Scientific/technical activities National Red List of Ecosystems (RLE) assessment in Colombia. The first national RLE in Colombia led to a revision of this assessment showing the use of this ecosystem risk assessment in evaluating the current conservation status in terms of their risk category, in relation NPAs, KBAs and World Heritage sites; as well as the identification of areas of interest for future restoration and conservation activities of the most threatened ecosystems. On-going Full activity report
Fundraising Ya'axche Conservation Trust sought partnership to contribute towards improved protection, biodiversity conservation and increased investments for the benefit of the National Protected Areas System (NPAS) priority ecosystems and their buffering communities. PACT was identified as the key partner for this project as it is an integral organization for the conservation of natural resources in Belize; through an agreement with the Government of Belize PACT receives a portion of it's revenues from the conservation Fee of US$ 3.75 paid by overnight visitors and a fifteen per cent commission from cruise ship passenger head tax. Ya'axche has been a long term partner with PACT and recently received the grantee of the year award. Additional support was requested from PACT based on the Conversation Investment Strategy that identified Bladen Nature Reserve as a protected area of national significance.
