The Commission on Ecosystem Management established a specialist group on Deep Sea Ecosystems and Mining

Description and results/achievements of activities:
The CEM Specialist Group on Deep Sea Ecosystems and Mining worked with The National Institute of Water and Atmosphere (NIWA) in New Zealand and prepared an information brochure on environmental issues associated with deep-sea minerals exploration.

The Deep Sea Mining specialist group leaders are extremely busy with their day jobs, and find little tim to devote to getting the group more active.

The brochure has been widely distributed at various meetings and workshops related to deep sea mining

Description
The CEM Specialist group will continue to work on raising awareness on the potential impacts of deep sea mining exploration, especially as companies are ramping up to begin exploration.
