We reported on these matters and events we were aware of also to our member bodies and to the other readers of our weekly email bulletin. | Policy influencing/advocacy | ECO is reporting on several years for this report. We made submissions (in 2017 or 2018) on the process of the development of the post 2020 targets to CBD; We submitted directly to the CBD on a few substantive matters. We made submissions to the NZ government on these and the SDGs, and quoted IUCN submissions and suggestions in the process. We collaborated in a civil society alternative national report on the SDGs, particularly SDG 14 "Under the Surface". . ECO wrote that particular chapter though there was a bit of editing done by a committee. We have supported the provisions for the transition in New Zealand to give greater recognition to and governance rights of Maori in a variety of legal and policy decision making and other processes. |

| Scientific/technical activities | Scientific/researches on the investigations of effects of the changes in forest cover on the distributions of protected animals (brown bear, Balkan lynx and grey wolf) and on the identifications of potential new protected areas in Balkan countries. A research is conducted on the investigations of effects of the changes in forest cover on the distributions of 35 endangered mammal species as identified by IUCN, at global level. | Other (please specify) | Under conservation actions for Javan gibbons on the IUCN red list site it currently states: In 2003, 56 Javan gibbons were maintained at eight Indonesian zoos, 15 at four Indonesian wildlife rescue centers, with five potential breeding pairs. There is no evidence that the species has bred successfully in captivity in Indonesia. Outside the range country, 48 Javan gibbons were maintained at ten institutions in nine countries, with six breeding pairs. The total ex-situ population is some 120 individuals, the majority of which are wild-caught (Nijman 2006). I would like to update this for the captive population and also breeding of the species in Indonesia |

Describe the results/achievements of the activities
Throughout 2019, IUCN constituents have been following the process of development of a new Global Biodiversity Framework for the post-2020 period. Numerous activities and results can be mentioned: participation in the CBD thematic consultations on post-2020; submission of IUCN inputs to the post-2020 process (see: https://www.iucn.org/theme/global-policy/our-work/convention-biological-diversity-cbd/post-2020-global-biodiversity-framework ); participation in the official and other meetings (including Open-ended Working Group on post-2020 and the CBD subsidiary body meetings) and distribution of IUCN position papers, information briefs and others; organisation of side events (e.g. IUCN evolving position, Evidence base for achieving species conservation and restoration - STAR and Three Global conditions at SBSTTA23 in November 2019), among others.
Challenges/obstacles encountered in the implementation of this Resolution and measures taken
Lack of a dedicated source of funding to finance work around post-2020 inputs (publication and distribution of briefs for example) as well as to fund staff time and participation at the many events and meetings on the post-2020 framework where IUCN, members and partners can have a positive impact. Most of the funding available is by way of projects which are finite and have other limitations.
Future actions / activities needed for the implementation of this Resolution
Development and dissemination of more background materials which put forward the scientific base as well as the practical applications of science-based targets and area-based conservation measures. This should ideally be accompanied by a global communications and awareness raising campaign.
