Scientific/technical activitiesZSL/AESG attende the 18th CITES CoP to input to discussion on anguillid eels and to work with Parties to craft the language of Decisions to be implemented over the coming three years. Further we held a joint workshop with JNCC, CEFAS and the CITES secretariat to outline progress on implementing the CITES listing of the European eel and how this impacts non-listed species.Completed
Please report on the result /achievement of the actions taken:
Anguillid eels are receiving significant attention in policy and public fora, particularly in relation to illegal fishing and trade. We are working to ensure science is fed in to these discussions and that focus is spread across all species, not simply those in trade.
What challenges have you encountered in implementing this Resolution and what measures have you taken to overcome them?:
The co-ordination within and between countries in relation to management and policy of anguillid eels could be strengthened. We are aiming to address this by working directly with governments and relevant RFBs.
