Activities carried out to implement this Resolution
Activity
Policy influencing/advocacy
Description and results/achievements of activities:
This resolution has not been implemented by IUCN. There has been no moves to re-establish the IUCN Antarctic advisory committee, or an Antarctic Network. IUCN has had a patchy attendance at Antarctic Treaty and CCAMLR meeting. IUCN did not attend the last CCAMLR meeting in 2019. There are few non-Government observers at Antarctic meetings and IUCN occupies one of those, it is important that it attends meetings.
Status
On-going
Describe any challenges encountered in implementing this Resolution and the measures taken
The absence of an IUCN region that covers the Antarctic and the Southern Ocean, and the failure of IUCN to engage with its members on Antarctic and Southern Ocean which represents 20 percent of the planet.
Please report on the result /achievement of the actions taken
IUCN attended the 2016 and 2018 CCAMLR meetings. This was a step forward but did not attend the 2019 meeting. IUCN needs to engage more with its members that are involved in Antarctic processes.
