Threat to subpopulation of dugong (Dugong dugon) become higher in a past several years.
One dugong died this March and among the rest of two, one is missing from five years ago and the another one has been missing since last October. IUCN Sirenia Specialist Group hold a meeting in Japan this September to discuss about the status of dugong.

There are new sighting information around Yaeyama archipelago compiled by Ministry of Environment of Japan, however they don’t know the detail of the status of dugong.
