Secretariat is implementing policy coherence amongst Rio Conventions, SDG agenda, G20 and G7 processes. IUCN Academy is in its 4th round of Professional Certificate course, NbS resourcing and opportunities were presented to the IUCN Framework Donors in the annual donor meeting, around 42 countries are engaging via ongoing projects on the ground. Several webinars and in-person workshops have been convened in the last 12 months by IUCN offices, including for members.
Challenges/obstacles encountered in the implementation of this Resolution and measures taken
Funding is a significant challenge and has not been overcome. Efforts are ongoing to secure funding, esp for secretariat to coordinate internally. AfD funding support has provided some assistance but was delayed by 8 months (due to delays in France signing). An internal investment is planned for 2023 which will further enable secretariat capacities to be mobilised for NbS.
Future actions / activities needed for the implementation of this Resolution
Fundraising, setting up an internal, dedicated team for NbS, outreach to membership, esp IPs and non-profit needs to be done more actively, portfolio expansion with deliberately designed NbS in parallel to retroactively infusing NbS into ongoing work of IUCN is also needed. Portfolio expansion especially provides strong opportunities avenues for workign with membership.
