The new membership category was included into the IUCN Statutes, following approval of the motion in Marseille. Membership application form and the necessary templates were adjusted/prepared by the Members and Commission Support Unit.
Since then, interest was sought and received from current IUCN Member organisations to change their membership category to the new subnational government category. New Members were recruited in this category.
The IUCN Leaders Forum in Jeju will be a good recruitment, engagement, networking and policy influencing opportunity for subnational governments.
