Description and results/achievements of activities:
Again as a coalition and the environmental NGO observer in CCAMLR, it advocates for expansions of MPAs foor marine biodiversity conservation and as a climate response. It promotes regulatory requirements to address ghost fishing gear, port state measures to address IUU fishing, effective krill conservation measures ammong others. It advocates for threatened Antarctic species affected by fishing such as penguins.

ASSOC is the environmental NGO observer in the Antarctic Treaty system including CCAMRLR and provides technical inputs including on MPAs and fisheries including krill regulated under CCAMLR.

The Director General and Commission Chairs have not yet establisehd the task force which was supposed to be done i 2021. Two countries are blocking MPA expansion in CCAMLR.

ASOC has helped achieve international support and recognition of the importance of Southern OceaN MPAs under CCAMLR.
