Education/Communication/Raising awareness#NatureForAll – NPWS is undertaking the biggest ever infrastructure investment in its history with $257 million invested in more than 750 kilometres of new and upgraded walking tracks (including important accessibility upgrades), 33 campground upgrades and 61 new and improved picnic areas are set to be delivered to support people getting out and connecting with nature. NPWS has continued its Discovery program giving students the opportunity to explore NSW national parks and learn about nature, conservation, Aboriginal culture and historic heritage. NPWS has maintained the Wilderquest children’s program designed to nurture a love of nature in kids 5 to 12 years old by helping them to explore the natural world and Aboriginal culture in ways that are fun and memorable.On-going
Policy influencing/advocacyHealthy Parks Healthy People – NPWS supported the Australian Committee for IUCN to organise the 2019 Healthy People in a Healthy Environment symposium which produced a key directions statement providing major insights and recommendations on how to promote, protect and enhance the critical links between human health, social and cultural wellbeing and a healthy environment.On-going
Scientific/technical activitiesGreen List of Protected and Conserved Areas – NPWS successfully renominated Cape Byron State Conservation Area, Arakwal National Park and Montague Island Nature Reserve to the IUCN Green List of Protected and Conservated areas program.On-going

Increased community awareness of protected areas is supporting increased visitation to national parks, and improved understanding of management standards for protected areas. NPWS has continued to support the implementation of The Promise of Sydney.
