II. Implementation

Activities carried out to implement this Resolution
Policy influencing/advocacy
Describe the results/achievements of the activities
A dossier was prepared in four languages (Spanish, English, Portuguese and French) to be used in the contacts with the countries in Macaronesia. The dossier has a extensive explanation of the situation and the proposal (see attachment).
Support is being saught on this proposal, and so far there have been several confirmations from several Members of the European Parliament, the UNESCO Catedra for marine sustainability, while the Canary Islands Government confirmation is pending.

Challenges/obstacles encountered in the implementation of this Resolution and measures taken
A conversation was started with the Spanish Ministry of Defence, but it has been fruitless so far. Talks will continue.
Future actions / activities needed for the implementation of this Resolution
- A meeting will be held in Fuerteventura with researchers on cetaceans from the Macaronesia and will re-launch the proposal;
- An event is envisaged at the European Parliament, but it is not clear if it will be hosted this year;
- Continue working with the Spanish Ministry of Defence;
- Trying to have a compromise from the new MPA that was declared in Salvagem islands (unhabited islands between Madeira and the Canaries) to adopt the moratorium;
- Getting in touch with the governments of Azores, Madeira and Cabo Verde to impulse the extension on their marine EEZs.
