Convene stakeholders/NetworkingWe held a series of expert meetings in New York in October 2022 on protected areas in armed conflict, it was a multi-disciplinary discussion which brought together both the military perspective/considerations and that of conservation experts. Completed
Education/Communication/Raising awarenessWe held 2 webinars in relation to armed conflict and environment topics and have contributed to blog posts and other webinars throughout the year in our roles.On-going
Policy influencing/advocacyThe chair of the SG was invited to expert meetings held by the ICRC with states, and meetings with other experts in the area to help the ICRC with guidance that they are creating for states on the protection of environmentally protected areas during armed conflict.On-going
Policy influencing/advocacyThe chair was invited to speak to members of the European Parliament in relation to protection of the environment in armed conflict, in relation to its own agenda for action on these issues. Completed
Policy influencing/advocacyWe held a UN side event at the UN HQ in New York which engaged with 31 state representatives, the ILC special rapporteurs on the topic of protection of the environment in relation to armed conflict and academics. Completed

Capacity-buildingWe are working with ZSL colleagues and CEOBS and others to convene a conference on environmental protection in armed conflict challenges.
Convene stakeholders/NetworkingWe have a workshop organised for June 21/22 in the Hague on corporate liability and due diligence, which will also feed into our work in implementing the resolution, ie to create guidance for states.
