ActionDescriptionStatus
Capacity-buildingThe 2022 SFI Forest Management Standard includes a new Objective on “Climate Smart Forestry,” which sets expectations for SFI-certified organizations related to climate change risk assessment, adaptation, and carbon management. The Climate Smart Forestry Objective also introduces new opportunities for engagement and collaboration via the SFI Implementation Committees (SICs). SFI designed regional in-person workshops to help members of SIC exchange ideas and provide regional information for SFI-certified organizations, which they can use to implement climate adaptation actions. Specifically, this workshop will help the SIC members/SFI-certified organizations to: 1) Understand different perspectives on climate smart forestry, including those of Indigenous rights holders, federal/provincial governments, companies, academics, and others; 2) Discuss potential climate change impacts to SFI-certified organizations and SFI-managed forests and prioritize climate change vulnerabilities and 3) Better understand climate change forestry risks and identify potential adaptation actions to address priority vulnerabilities.On-going
