Description and results/achievements of activities:
The RESIST project implemented by DanChurchAid (DCA) in partnership with Dalit Women's Rights Forum (DWRF), National Indigenous Women’s Federation (NIWF) and funded buy RISE grants challenge aims to address GBV affecting women and marginalized groups involved in the protection, management, and use of community forests increasing safe access to response services, enabling the conservation of forest resources and acknowledging the need to respect human rights. Within the implementation period, the project will engage 50 Community Forest User Groups (CFUGs), comprising of indigenous Tharus, Dalit community (untouchable caste under the Hindu caste system), youth groups and the local government from Kailari Rural Municipality and Bhajani Municipality of Kailali District in Nepal. Additionally, the project fosters partnerships with local authorities and traditional leaders to create a supportive environment for WEHRDs, while advocating the policy reforms to integrate GBV prevention measures into community forestry policies and practices. The project will support to expand safe, equitable access to community forests, ensure increase access and influence of marginalized groups in subnational (provincial and local) and federal networks, and increase their capacity as well as accountability to address GBV as a barrier for women’s rights and roles in forestry.

Through the RISE grants challenge, the Asia Indigenous Peoples Pact (AIPP) is partnering with the International Work Group for Indigenous Affairs (IWGIA) and the Persekutan Perempuan Adat Nusantara (PEREMPUAN AMAN) to empower and elevate the voices of Indigenous women environmental human rights defenders (IWEHRDs) to self-determine their priorities, voices, and strategies to end gender-based violence as a barrier to their defense of the environment. The project provides a regional knowledge sharing, capacity strengthening and solidarity platform for Indigenous women as they lead and disseminate their own research on the impact gender-based violence has on their activism, human rights, and environmental contributions with the support of a safety plan and fund.
