Limulus amebocyte lysate (LAL)'s widespread use contributes to wild horseshoe crab depletion. China's judiciary is actively combating illegal trade and undertaking restoration efforts. For instance, in March 2025, the Ruian (Zhejiang) procuratorate prosecuted an illegal Chinese horseshoe crab trafficking case, releasing the assessed healthy individuals back to suitable waters. Coastal regions across China also held "World Horseshoe Crab Day" events on June 20th to raise conservation awareness.
