In March 2025, the Chinese National Medical Products Administration and the National Health Commission officially released the 2025 edition of the Pharmacopoeia of the People's Republic of China (Chinese Pharmacopoeia), which will take effect on October 1, 2025. Notably, 19 traditional Chinese medicines, including Gui Ling Ji, have been removed. Gui Ling Ji includes ingredients like pangolin and seahorse. Its removal from the Chinese Pharmacopoeia signifies that medicines containing pangolin will no longer be part of the national drug standards.
