Following the approval of the motion proposing the creation of a marine biodiversity sanctuary in the Macaronesian region, contact was established with the universities of Gran Canaria, La Laguna (Tenerife), Azores, Madeira, and Cape Verde. The aim was to jointly develop an explanatory report structured around five chapters ,Geomorphology, Climate Variability, Ocean Circulation, Marine Biodiversity and Life, and Marine Biogeochemistry ,to support the sanctuary proposal. This report seeks to highlight the ecological importance of the area, with a particular focus on primary production, marine biodiversity, and the need to protect the region due to the significant presence of cetaceans that inhabit or migrate through these waters.
