Field activities
With support from the California Wildlife Conservation Board, the Roots program funds wildlife-friendly, community-centered restoration projects on farms, ranches, and other working landscapes across California. Practices include native plant hedgerows, monarch and pollinator plantings, riparian restoration, and oak woodland restoration.

We are studying the social and structural barriers that keep historically underserved land managers from accessing restoration funding (long-term contract requirements, waivers of sovereign immunity) and applying what we learn to program design.
