In 2016, the term UUU (unselective, unsustainable and unmonitored) fishing was developed and a Resolution of the World Conservation Congress, adopted by Members, tasked IUCN’s Species Survival Commission with reporting on the concept. The resulting situation analysis utilises the trawl fisheries of China, Thailand and Vietnam to explore how some of the issues associated with UUU fishing can be linked back to these three elements.

Distributed in the Sundaland region (Thai-Malay Peninsula, Sumatra, Borneo, Java and adjacent smaller islands), langurs of the genus Presbytis are one of the most threatened groups of Asian primates. According to the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, 24 of the 28 taxa (>85%) are threatened with extinction (listed as Critically Endangered, Endangered or Vulnerable). One taxon is classified as Near Threatened and one as Data Deficient. Only two Presbytis taxa are considered as Least Concern.

In order to promote and augment regional initiatives on sustainable aquaculture, aquatic animal health and resource enhancement, and to consequently contribute to poverty alleviation, livelihood and food security, the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center/Aquaculture Department (SEAFDEC/AQD) has held a 3-day workshop on the “Promotion of Sustainable Aquaculture, Aquatic Animal Health and Resource Enhancement in Southeast Asia (SARSEA)” on 25–27 June 2019 in Iloilo City, Philippines.

Knowledge gathered over the past four years in the IUCN Close the Plastic Tap programme is the basis of this publication.

The helmeted hornbill faces a conservation crisis that requires an urgent response. A conservation planning workshop bringing together a multistakeholder group consisting of government agencies, non-government organisations, academia, field experts, donors and a zoological institution was held in Sarawak, Malaysia in May 2017 to construct such a response.

This proceedings contain the country reports, review papers, a synopsis of working group discussions and a list of regional policy recommendations for the development and use of alternative dietary ingredients in aquaculture feed development.
