This report analyses the factors which motivate land use by rural populations and provides a context for any policy or strategy which addresses natural resource conservation in the Sahel.
Presents research results on LMEs including identification of the major driving forces causing large-scale changes in biomass yields and health; development of ecosystem component models; and monitoring and assessment strategies and techniques for measuring changing states of LMEs.
This series presents the results of an investigation by IUCNs Global Change Programme into the possible implications of predicted global change for natural systems and their management. This publication examines issues specific to marine ecosystems.

Results of a key workshop covering the Antarctic protected area system, design and management planning, tourism and protection of historic features, international legal and policy issues, and information and communication.
Based on the premise that all research done in protected areas can enhance their management, these guidelines, which originated in a parks Congress workshop, provide a source of ready-to-adapt ideas suggesting ways that researchers and managers can work more effectively with each other and with t

Burkina Faso boasts both varied natural and artificially created wetlands, the latter resulting from some 1100 dams or embankments. These wetlands, however, have not been seen as distinct ecosystem units and responsibility for wetland issues has been fragmented.
This volume describes the major issues facing protected areas, both terrestrial and marine, and discusses the approaches needed to address these issues.
This work draws attention to the conservation problems confronting these species. The general lack of knowledge about this group has meant that they are afforded little protection.

This book summarizes the results of survey under-taken by IUCN and collaborators of the immediate and mid-term environmental damage arising from the Gulf War, in particular the massive oil spillage.
Zimbabwes wetlands are small, diverse and unique in nature but, until recently, in planning and development the components of these ecosystems have been treated as separate entities. These 18 papers highlight most forcefully the problems and issues.
