rof. Dr. Aadil Al-Handhal, (Department of Marine Biology), has attended the regular meeting of the Regional Organization for the Protection of the Marine Environment (ROPME in Kuwait under the title ‘Experts Meeting on Earth-Related Activities’. Discussions concerning anthropogenic activities that release liquid wastes to the marine environment took place. The meeting was attended by representatives of the member states of ROPME: Iraq, Bahrain, Kuwait, Iran, United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Saudi Arabia, in addition to experts from the United Nations and representative from a sewage treatment program in the Mediterranean basin. Members reviewed the various global technologies and software used in this field. Prof Aadil presented an Iraqi document which outlined the Iraqi human activities related to resource usage, specifically in the region between Baghdad and the Iraqi coast. He highlighted local efforts in treating effluent, treatment stations and composition. He presented Iraqi environmental legislation issued for protecting the local environment from waters pollution. At the end of the meeting, recommendations and suggestion concerning enhancing the protection of the environment
