II. Implementation

Global MPA network has been assessed and agenda toward 2020 has been launched (IMPANA).
Regional MPA networks has been strengthened, in several regions: Mediterranean, Pacific, Caribbean, North East Atlantic, amongst others.
CBD Sustainable Ocean Initiative (SOI) has been developed.
IMPAC 3 has been convened (Marseille 2013) with more that 1500 participants.
MPAs activities has been very successful, including at the Ocean + Pavilion at the World Park Congress (Sydney 2014).
IMPAC 4 (Chile 2017) steering Committee has been convened.
Several publications and brochures has been published, including a first issue of MPA papers by Aquatic Conservation Journal (Wiley) after IMPAC3 (next issue after WPC is in preparation).

Influencing global and regional policies for making sure that MPAs are considered at the relevant levels, e.g. as solutions for climate change adaptation and mitigation, at COP 21.

Providing scientific knowledge on selected issues such as MPAs and Climate change, MPA and aquaculture, Marine Managed Areas, etc.
