Describe the results/achievements of the actions taken:
A brainstorming session on the implementation of the resolution was organized in London in January 2017, by the Chair of the WCPA Urban Specialist Group. Several Members of this Group were present at this meeting. In March 2017 and June 2017, Jonathan Hughes participated respectively in the Salzburg Global Seminar Session, the Child in the City and the Eco-Forum in China to raise awareness for the Urban Alliance. In August 2017, Chantal van Ham, EU Programme Manager Nature Based Solutions and focal point for IUCNs collaboration with local and regional governments, prepared a list with key contacts in IUCNs constituency that focus on the urban agenda, and Jonathan Hughes sent an update to these contacts with attached a concept paper with initial ideas on the strategic goals of the IUCN Urban Alliance focusing on IUCN’s strength as a global convenor, its strength as an innovator in the nature based-solutions space, and IUCNs track record in producing globally respected and impactful knowledge products, tools and standards. The concept paper also explained how development of the governance of the Urban Alliance might be taken forward in the coming months. The Urban Task Force (UTF) of IUCN Council had its first meeting in November 2017 and had a positive and informed discussion on the draft vision and goals (see attached) of the Urban Alliance. Chantal van Ham presented an overview of the urban activities of IUCN to date. The Task Force made the following recommendations to Council: 1. Council approves the appointment of Jonathan Hughes as Chair of the Urban Alliance. 2. Council endorses the vision and goals for the Urban Alliance as prepared by the Urban Task Force 3. Council requests UTF, in line with its Terms of Reference, to select members of the Urban Alliance Steering Group, to develop a Terms of Reference for the Urban Alliance and to organise the inaugural meeting in early 2018 (budget required)
