Implementation
Indicate which actions have been carried out to implement this Resolution :
Field activities
Policy influencing/advocacy
Scientific/technical activities
Describe the results/achievements of the actions taken:
Tidal power assessments have taken place in Tonga and Sea Water Temperature differentials have been collected in Tuvalu, both for University research to generate relevant publications for the deployment of novel energy generation systems and emission reduction measures.
What challenges/obstacles have been encountered in the implementation of this Resolution and how were they overcome :
Lack of capacity and capital to deploy and maintain ocean-based energy systems is a continuous barrier to increased investment in the technology.
Briefly describe what future actions are needed for the implementation of this Resolution:
Additional support from the Global Marine & Polar programme to streamline consideration of offshore biodiversity into safeguarding for ocean-based energy installations would be useful for creating global standards for minimizing impacts on ecosystems. It needs to be integrated as a consideration of marine-spatial planning work in the region, as well.
Are these actions planned for yet:
No
