Capacity-buildingA training workshop has been conducted in partnership with Global Sustainable Energy Solutions to certify Niue Power Corporation and private electricians in Grid-Connected Solar PV design, installation, and operations. This training workshop included practical exercises resulting in an additional 5kW of solar PV capacity being installed on the Niue electrical grid.Completed
Education/Communication/Raising awarenessPoster/writing contest conducted at primary/secondary level in schools to broaden awareness of environmental impacts renewable energy/energy efficiency technology may have on the country. Prizes have been awarded to the most exemplary submissions at various grade levels.Completed
OtherA Low Carbon Fund has been established in partnership with the Niue Development Bank, resulting in over 25 successful applicants receiving subsidies for replacing old appliances with high efficiency refrigerators, freezers, and washing machines. The fund has been populated with over US$90,000 in capital, and is currently under disbursement to qualified applicants.On-going
Policy influencing/advocacyIn conjunction with the Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC), a revision of the 1960 Energy Supply Act has been financed and is now being drafted. The legislative review has been completed and considerations for RE/EE technology is now being integrated into the upcoming draft Act.On-going
