Education/Communication/Raising awarenessConducted agro-ecology capacity building sessions with indigenous farmers from communities adjacent to protected areas in the Maya Golden Landscape. Activities included demonstration planting of local pest control plant varieties into existing Inga Alley-Cropping farms and development of demonstration labs to farm biological control agents that are natural predators for indigenous pests. Training sessions conducted by Professor Reuben Sanchez of Instituto de Investigaciones Fundamentales en Agricultura Tropical (Cuba) through the South-South cooperation.Completed
FundraisingYa'axche sought partnership for the continuation of the climate-smart agriculture capacity building sessions with indigenous farmers. The sessions focused on agro-ecology practices to reduce the impact of agriculture on biodiversity in the Mayan Golden Landscape in southern Belize. Completed

A team of indigenous farmers from southern Belize participated in a South-South cooperation networking opportunity in Cuba. They attended the Simposo Ecologia Sociedad y Medio Ambiente Ecovida 2018in Pinar del Rio hosted by Instituto de Investigaciones Fundamentales en Agricultura Tropical (Cuba).
