Indicate which actions have been carried out to implement this Resolution :
Scientific/technical activities
Describe the results/achievements of the actions taken:
The IUCN Secretariat prepared a pre-classification of all 1305 IUCN Resolutions and Recommendations (through engagement with many IUCN Programmes and Regions) and presented it to Council at its October session in Jeju. The IUCN Council subsequently set up a Task Force to 1) consider this pre-classification in detail, 2) put in place a mechanism to ensure regular review of all active Resolutions in between Congresses, 3) provide recommendation on how to proceed with active Resolutions and Recommendations that are not currently being implemented, and 4) create an accessible archive.
What challenges/obstacles have been encountered in the implementation of this Resolution and how were they overcome :
Receiving timely and substantive inputs from Programmes and Regions, who are not resourced to undertake in-depth research into the implementation (or not) of older Resolutions and Recommendations. Likewise reaching consensus on which Resolutions and Recommendations should be considered active vs retired, based on differing views and inputs.
Briefly describe what future actions are needed for the implementation of this Resolution:
In March 2019 the Task Force will present to the PPC and Council its recommendations on the above four actions. The agreed-upon Resolutions and Recommendations to be retired will be placed in an online archive, to be created by the Secretariat, prior to the beginning of the motion submission process (in May 2019) for the 2020 Congress. Thereafter regular reviews of active Resolutions and Recommendations will need to be undertaken, and the means through which that takes place will need to be decided.
