Describe the results/achievements of the actions taken:
There are many results associated with this resolution and it is not possible to list them all here, nor list all of the organisations involved. Enormous progress has been made with implementing the IUCN Green List and now 35 countries are committed partipants and approximately 250 protected areas are involved. The collation of case studies of inspiring solutions has proceeded well, and the knowledge and networking platform, PANORAMA, has grown in membership and depth, with more than 450 published solutions. On Health and Well-being, there has been a strong push towards agreement at the global policy level in both the World Health Assembly and the Convention on Biological Diversity, and continued effort at the level of nature conservation agencies, as well through the WCPA Specialist Group on Health and Well-being. Biodiversity and Business Solutions have been incorporated into PANORAMA and this portal was launched at the CBD COP14 in Egypt. On Protected Area Governance Quality, Diversity and Equity, there continue to be several major streams of work, including at the policy level, but most importantly through work being conducted by several partners around the world on governance assessment at national levels, in at least 28 countries. WCPA and the CEC have forged ahead with #NatureForAll with a significant growth in membership and partnership in this initiative.
What challenges/obstacles have been encountered in the implementation of this Resolution and how were they overcome :
It has been 4 years since the World Parks Congress in Sydney, and as we enter the fifth year, there is a need to take stock and to determine how the commitments made at the Congress are translating into implementation.
Briefly describe what future actions are needed for the implementation of this Resolution:
During 2019, there will be a need to prepare and disseminate a questionnaire to all those who have made commitments, as well as across the IUCN membership to determine what actions have been taken in the past five years that relate to recommendations made at the World Parks Congress. Preparations will also be put in place to conduct a Sydney +5 meeting to coincide also with the 60th Anniversary of the establishment of the World Commission on Protected Areas
Are these actions planned for yet:
Yes
