Describe the results/achievements of the actions taken:
IUCN continued to actively highlight the importance of nature-based solutions to climate change in support of the Paris Agreement in 2018. At the policy level, this was done through the submissions and interventions that it made during the 2018 Talanoa Dialogue, and at a wide range of events and engagements during UNFCCC SB48 and UNFCCC COP24. It also continued to advance its programmatic work on ecosystem-based mitigation, including through the Bonn Challenge, which has now secured over 170 million hectares in restoration pledges, and its application on the ground in a variety of jurisdictions, which were tracked through the Bonn Challenge Barometer. On ecosystem-based adaptation, IUCN actively supported the design and development of the new CBD guidelines on EbA and EcoDRR that were adopted in 2018. This was in addition to supporting a wide-range of implementation and capacity building activities that it undertook jointly with members and partners, including through the Friends of EbA (FEBA) network. It also continued its analytical work to assess the extent to which UNFCCC Parties have integrated nature-based solutions within the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), and continued to call for the expanded and more concrete inclusion of the same in the next round of NDCs that are due in 2020. IUCN also joined and supported the Nature4Climate coalition, a muti-partner initiative that brought together other like-minded members and partners who are also supporting the greater uptake of ecosystem-based mitigation and adaption measures in meeting the goals of the Paris Agreement.
