Describe the results/achievements of the actions taken:
- Workshops and events organised contributing to advance understanding around the process, structure, scope, content of the post-2020 global biodiversity framework- some include: Space for Nature symposium (London, UK- 27-28 Feb.2018), CCI Expert meeting (Cambridge, UK- 10-12 April, 2018), side events during CBD SBSTTA (2-7 July, Montreal),SBI (9-13 July, 2018), COP14 (Egypt, 17-29 November, 2018), etc.
- Developed and released information briefs and position papers on issues related to post-2020 including- Science-based targets, national contributions, synergies across biodiversity-related conventions (BRCs), etc
- Carried out an IUCN Members' survey on capacity building gaps for implementation of the BRCs and the post-2020 framework. The survey results were then analysed and presented in a publication submitted to the CBD Secretariat.
- Carried out consultations across IUCN to gather inputs for submissions on post-2020; everything is being documented and published in an IUCN dedicated webpage on post-2020.
- IUCN Council formed a Task Force on Post-2020 to help drive in a coordinated way, IUCN's evolving position on post-2020.
What challenges/obstacles have been encountered in the implementation of this Resolution and how were they overcome :
Lack of sufficient funding is always a challenge. Ways to overcome this include "tagging" post-2020 activities to ongoing projects and ensuring interlinkages with IUCN's work (at all levels).
Briefly describe what future actions are needed for the implementation of this Resolution:
2019 is a year of preparation for IUCN's Congress in Marseille 2020. It is also a year when many CBD official consultations and meetings on post-2020 will take place. This represents an enormous opportunity for IUCN to gather inputs from Members through its own consultations (e.g. at RCFs) and influence the post-2020 process in a focused and strategic way.
