General Information
Resolution
44095
IUCN Constituent
IUCN Commission on Education and Communication 2017-2020
Period covered
Actors involved in implementing this Resolution:
Other non-IUCN related organisations
In 1995 founded the Global Compliance Project and I wrote a book placing the Beijing Platform in the context of previous international obligations and commitment and I involved 70 women from different parts of the world to call for compliance with international law
II. Implementation
Please report on the result /achievement of the actions taken
We have continued to monitor government compliance. It is not surprising that the US and the state house of the IUCN voted against this resolution. If states sign, they may not ratify, if they ratify, they may not pass implementing
legislation. I noticed that with the SDGs, so many of the goals had ignored precedents so I placed the SDGs in the context of forgotten precedents. At the UN. I have been astonished and dismayed at the delegates' disregard for legal precedents. One time, when I referred to a legal precedent the chair responded,"legal precedents are irrelevant, this is a political document"
