Indicate and briefly describe any actions that have been carried out to implement this Resolution:
ActionDescriptionStatus
Education/Communication/Raising awarenessWe live in the Western Ghats in India, a UNESCO Bio-Heritage Center and a Bio-Hot Spot in India, with geomorphic features of immense importance with unique biophysical and ecological processes. Tribal Foundation representatives serve as resource persons in many meetings, seminars, workshops in educational institutions and meetings organized by the Forest Department and the Tamil Nadu State Government. We work closely in unison with the Department and support the Department in their conservation efforts. The Foundation strongly believes that we can execute conservation in a better way by involving the forest dwellers, namely the indigenous community. So the Foundation aims at the development of their socio-economic, cultural and environmental spheres. During the OCKHI Cyclone and the Kerala Floods, the Foundation rushed to them for emergency relief supplying food materials, cloth, tarpaulins and other basic items for livelihood, when many were rendered homeless. We also support the Forest Department in animal rescue operations. The Foundation strongly advises the indigenous community to refrain from wild honey hunting and helps them to establish domestic honey breeding by fixing bee nests with the support of the Government Horticulture Department and supports in marketing the honey in towns. The Foundation takes children and teachers to forests for eco-exposure and to have a direct study of the flora and fauna in real situations.On-going
