Implementation
Indicate which actions have been carried out to implement this Resolution :
Convene stakeholders/Networking
Education/Communication/Raising awareness
Policy influencing/advocacy
Scientific/technical activities
Describe the results/achievements of the actions taken:
The urban activities of IUCN have been strengthened thanks to the support of the Arcadia Fund for the Urban Alliance and through support from the EU for projects to implement nature-based solutions and to increase the awareness of the benefits of nature for cities. The collaboration with core partners, is maintained and some new connections were made as part of the project activities and the development of the urban nature index. IUCN Commissions have actively engaged in expanding the urban dimension of their work and Regional Offices in Asia, Africa, South and Meso America are growing their involvement in working with cities providing expertise and capacity building to create new partnerships for biodiversity protection, enhancing the connectivity between cities and their surrounding ecosystems and assessment of the value of natural capital as well mobilising new sources of funding to invest in urban nature-based solutions.

Continued the work described in 2018 report, including on urban protected areas, dark skies, and methods of convening urban actors. Created a new website, www.TheUrbanImperative.org, pulling together information about activities and projects of the specialist group. Launched an Advisory Group on Long-Distance Trails.

Research published in peer-reviewed academic journal.
What challenges/obstacles have been encountered in the implementation of this Resolution and how were they overcome :
The implementation of this resolution fully depends on project funding, most actions described above are linked to the Urban Alliance project funded by Arcadia and the EU funded projects GrowGreen and ENABLE; this creates challenges for future continuation of the actions as new funding will need to be mobilised to strengthen IUCN's urban engagement across the regions in the long run.
Briefly describe what future actions are needed for the implementation of this Resolution:
IUCN European Regional Office will roll out a capacity building programme for cites to develop and implement urban nature-based solutions strategies and projects for the project partner cities as well as other European and international cities.

Urban Alliance has mobilise funding to establish an Urban Pavillion during the IUCN WCCC to showcase key achievements for biodiversity in cities from IUCN Members and partners of the alliance.

the World Conservation Congress will launch the Urban Nature Index, a first draft of which will soon be the subject of a stakeholder consultation.

GLOBAL BEACONS OF HOPE, www.globalbeacons.org. This project which is in organization, originated in the Institute's work on convening urban actors in nature conservation and historic preservation. Global Beacons of Hope are places carefully chosen to symbolize the imagination, exploration, and moral behavior needed to move the world toward greater justice and sustainability.
Are these actions planned for yet:
Yes
Status of implementation
