Activities carried out to implement this Resolution
Policy influencing/advocacy
Describe the results/achievements of the activities
A de facto whale sanctuary is currently in place in the South Atlantic since no nation is currently hunting whales in this area.
Challenges/obstacles encountered in the implementation of this Resolution and measures taken
With some members of the IWC leaving this opens the door for the resumption of whaling in Antarctic Waters. Putting in place further conservation measures would be one way to prevent killing whales in this area in the future.
Future actions / activities needed for the implementation of this Resolution
Further interactions with the whaling nations in needed and the use of sound science to argue why whaling should not be done.
Are these actions/activities planned?
Yes
