Description and results/achievements of activities:
SFI has engaged with Michigan State University’s Forest Carbon and Climate Program in the development of an assessment of forest management in mitigating the effects of climate change. Initial assessments note the utility of the SFI Forest Management certification standard in positively benefitting both carbon and climate resiliency. This validation of the SFI Standard as exemplifying “Climate Smart” forestry accrues the benefits of sustainably managed forests to the nature-based solutions to combat climate change. SFI is currently working on assessments to quantify such contributions.
