Activities carried out to implement this Resolution
Education/Communication/Raising awareness
Policy influencing/advocacy
Scientific/technical activities
Describe the results/achievements of the activities
Little information has been provided on the resolution implementation. IUCN Secretariat/DG has undertaken many activities aiming to informing stakeholders on threats from IAS, including through its work across a number of projects alongside the SSC supporting the EC in the implementation of the EU IAS Regulation. IUCN have also worked with the International Maritime Organisation to publish guidelines on biofouling for recreational sailing. In addition the SSC has published the first batch of IUCN Environmental Impact Classficaiton for Alien Taxa (EICAT) assessments on the Global Invasive Species Database (GISD).
In relation to policy, the Comité national de l´UICN, France supported the inclusion of pampas grass among the plant species concerned by the draft decree relating to the updating of the lists of IAS in metropolitan territory (currently open to public consultation). Note that in the Cortaderia selloana has not yet been listed on the EU IAS Regulation list of Union concern (latest update was 2022). IUCN and the ISSG have also engaged on the issue of e-commerce of IAS through CBD discussions and working groups on IAS.

Challenges/obstacles encountered in the implementation of this Resolution and measures taken
Little information has been provided on the resolution implementation. However, resource mobilisation in relation to the management of C. selloana will likely be a significant challenge as it is a globally widespread IAS. In addition, the regulation of e-commerce trade in IAS has been identified as an important but challenging issue to effectively address. Specifically, while some funds have been found by ISSG and IUCN to support the development and application of EICAT and incorporate it into the GISD, more funds and capacity are required to scale this work up.
Future actions / activities needed for the implementation of this Resolution
Signiant work remains to be done on the operatives calling for management and regulation of Cortaderia selloana. For IUCN, an EICAT assessment of Cortaderia selloana would be an important future action, along with continued work on informing members about the threat of IAS (e.g. through additional EICAT assessments for a broad range of taxa, and work supporting the implementation of the EU IAS Regulation), and engagement on e-commerce trade of IAS.
Are these actions/activities planned?
No
