Indicate which actions have been carried out to implement this Resolution :
Convene stakeholders/Networking
Policy influencing/advocacy
Scientific/technical activities
Describe the results/achievements of the actions taken:
Note that WCC-2020-REC-109 "Increasing funding for biodiversity in developing countries" is a recommendation, not a resolution. It does not call for specific actions by the IUCN Members, Commissions or DG. Rather, the recommendations recommends that bilateral and multilateral donors, signatory states to CBD, and private sector increase funding for biodiversity in developing countries. Regardless, there are many activities at IUCN that contribute towards the objectives of this recommendation, including convening, policy influencing, and scientific and technical activities by IUCN Commissions, Members and Secretariat.
What challenges/obstacles have been encountered in the implementation of this Resolution and how were they overcome :
N/A. As such, the recommendations are clear. Achieving increased biodiversity funding in developing countries recommended in WCC-2020-REC-109 will depend on political will, negotiations for the post-2020 CBD global biodiversity framework and private sector action. IUCN contributes to those activities, but they are not listed as part of the recommendation.
Briefly describe what future actions are needed for the implementation of this Resolution:
Issues related to financing biodiversity conservation in developing countries are key to resource mobilisation required to implement the CBD post-2020 global biodiversity framework. Putting the recommendation in WCC-2020-REC-109 into practice will be discussed and negotiated in CBD COP15 in Montreal in December 2022. As noted above, IUCN as a Union, including its all constituent parts, contributes to those activities, but they are not listed as part of the recommendation.
