Education/Communication/Raising awarenessIn 2021 CCB has continued with the development of agri-environmental educational curricula on efficient nutrient resources management, nutrient recycling and Best Agricultural Practices for practitioners of conventional and industrial agriculture through the network of agricultural universities and research institutions in the eastern part of BSR in Ukraine, Belarus and Poland.Completed
Education/Communication/Raising awarenessThe evaluation study of the impact of the CAP on climate change and greenhouse gas emissions, financed by the EC, was released in May 2019. CCB has scrutinised the report in 2020 and has used it as the basis for a compilation in 2021of a list of measures for climate adaptation in BSR agriculture. On a national level, CCB’s WA AGRI has prepared together with the Living Earth Coalition and an expert opinion on “Water in agriculture", which explains climate change role in droughts and provides solutions in the form of adaptation and mitigation measures in agriculture, including listing of measures for climate adaptation in BSR agriculture. Climate adaptation in agriculture issue has been also addressed at the webinar “Climate change and the Baltic Sea catchment” on 15 May 2020. Polish Ecological Club, CCB Member Organization, prepared the video “The water is running out! Protection of water resources on agricultural land” that addressed proposed measures in agriculture which help agriculture to adopt to climate changes. An overview report of existing Flood Risk Management Plans and approaches in the Baltic countries was published in 2021 and includes proposals for integrated Flood Risk Management Plans, development of national adaptation measures coordinated by basins and proposals for public participation, including in agricultural sector.Completed
Policy influencing/advocacyIn 2021 CCB continued developing and promoting strategies to address wise nutrient resource management, following the EU roadmap towards a Circular Economy, and supported initiatives for management of critical raw materials like phosphorus and development of markets for raw materials like organic fertilizers.Completed
Policy influencing/advocacyTo support Low Harm Farming campaign of the Pesticide Action Network (PAN) Europe, CCB has started in 2020 an advocacy campaign for pesticide dependency reductions, encouraging policy changes towards ensuring that farmers apply integrated pest management based on solid agronomic practices to prevent pest build-up and on the use of non-chemical alternatives, where needed. Pesticide Free Towns campaign of PAN Europe was also promoted under this activity in 2021, aiming at reducing the use of pesticides in the parks and streets where BSR residents work, live and play. Such advocacy was implemented through awareness raising and education in rural farming communities in Ukraine, where series of workshops have started in 2020 by Ecoterra and continued in 2021.Completed
