Education/Communication/Raising awarenessSFI launched its 2022 Standards last year which includes a new Objective 8, Recognize and Respect Indigenous Peoples’ Rights, ensure respect for Indigenous Peoples’ rights and traditional knowledge, which is aligned with the principles of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. With respect to the COVID-19, SFI has worked and partnered with Indigenous communities throughout the pandemic. SFI has adhered to protocols, requests, or direction from Indigenous communities in managing Covid-19 safety measures for instance, the Intertribal Timber Committee (ITC) requested that meetings be held virtually until such time as they feel the issue has been addressed satisfactorily.
