Description and results/achievements of activities:
The WCPA Freshwater Specialist Group has been collaborating with colleagues in the SSC and the IUCN membership to address how to develop better guidelines for assessing and tracking the effectiveness of protected area management for inland waters. The current plan is to develop a set of standards that set a baseline for the extent to which inland systems are covered by protected areas, and then look at the effectiveness of management techniques, and suggest an updated set of guidelines.
