Education/Communication/Raising awarenessIn 2021, SFI launched a partnership to develop a new SFI Urban and Community Forest Sustainability Standard for application in North America and potentially globally. SFI collaborated with five urban forestry leaders: American Forests, Arbor Day Foundation, the International Society of Arboriculture, the Society of Municipal Arborists, and Tree Canada and worked with various other organizations the SFI Urban-Community Forestry Task Group. This standard would be the world’s first forest standard for communities and would be applicable to cities and town of all sizes, anywhere in the world. It aims to promote nature-based solutions and resilience to climate change and help maintain and enhance the value of urban trees. Through third-party audits, certified organizations could demonstrate effectiveness of urban forest management.On-going
