Please report on the result /achievement of the actions taken:
CCB met the Commissioner on the 7th of September in Brussels to hand over the results of an eel petition and to present our key options for a new Commission proposal to limit the eel fishery. CCB has also driven the topic to both DG mare and DG environment to also make sure that eel is part of the new action plan for fisheries.
CCB's ambitions to initiate a process to develop a draft Baltic Salmon management plan was implemented and both a meeting with salmon experts and scientists in Sweden as well as plans for next steps and meetings were concluded. An initial outline of key components and questions was also developed. It is crucial to move salmon management forward as current positive developments are only regulated in the TAC and quota regulation annually, meaning the situation is not legally stable. Moreover, CCB has started a process of forming a small group of experts and have engaged the senior salmon expert scientists.
What challenges have you encountered in implementing this Resolution and what measures have you taken to overcome them?:
CCB has created/supported an NGO coalition regarding eel that includes anglers but the aim to push forward a full ban of recreational fishing in all waters, also inland waters, has not materialized as planned. CCB will continue to push for this as a regional measure that the MS should accept under HELCOM and Baltfish to reduce the eel mortality.
