Implementation
Indicate and briefly describe any actions that have been carried out to implement this Resolution:
ActionDescriptionStatus
Policy influencing/advocacyMission Blue has been working with allies in the Deep Sea Conservation Coalition (DSCC) to slow down efforts to expand deep sea mining, and increase the number of countries to ratify a moratorium on deep sea mining.On-going
Policy influencing/advocacyMission Blue's policy lead, Max Bello, attended the International Seabed Authority (ISA) meeting in July 2024 as part of Chile's delegation, working closely with other Latin American countries on the voting for the new secretary general for the ISA. This contributed to replacing the previous secretary general, who seemed overly strongly aligned with the mining industry, with a new secretary general who has a background in marine science and a more independent view on deep sea mining. Completed
Please report on the result /achievement of the actions taken:
Engagement at the ISA in July 2024 supported the election of a new secretary general with experience in marine science and a absence of allegiance with the mining industry to support a more objective and informed perspective on deep sea mining.

Working with the members of the Deep Sea Conservation Coalition (DSCC) has led to a number of countries ratifying the moratorium on deep sea mining, including Mexico.
Identify and briefly describe what future actions are planned for the implementation of this Resolution:
Future ActionDescription
Policy influencing/advocacyMission Blue will maintain its engagement with the ISA and DSCC to continue to prioritise conservation of deep sea bed ecosystems and to thwart any efforts by countries to open up areas to deep sea mining.
