ActionDescriptionStatus
Convene stakeholders/NetworkingFrom the National Voluntary and Communal Conservation Network “Amazonía Que Late” (AQL), we actively contribute to the fulfillment of IUCN Resolution No. 098. Through our more than 180 conservation initiatives in 11 regions of the Peruvian Amazon, we integrate principles of compatibility between human activities and conservation objectives. AQL works to protect 2 million hectares through a focus on four strategic axes: control of environmental crimes, development of sustainable bioeconomies, education and communication to strengthen the Amazonian cultural identity, and creation of empowerment spaces for women in conservation. As AQL, we promote actions that guarantee the conservation of biodiversity and respect for local cultural values. Our commitment to zero deforestation and sustainable resource management represents significant savings for the State in environmental control, contributing to the effective protection and long-term sustainability of the Andean Amazon.On-going
Please report on the result /achievement of the actions taken:
“Amazonía Que Late” was created in 2017 with 5 regions, and with the legal technical secretariat of Amazónicos por la Amazonía – AMPA, by 2024 there are more than 180 conservation initiatives, such as private and communal conservation areas, conservation concessions, ecotourism concessions, non-timber forest concessions, agrobiodiversity zones and environmental conservation areas in 11 regions of Peru (Amazonas, San Martín, Loreto, Ucayali, Madre de Dios, Junín, Pasco, Huánuco, Cusco, Cajamarca and Piura). As a national network, we voluntarily protect nearly 2 million hectares and represent a savings to the Peruvian State of more than 15 million soles per year, only in control and surveillance actions to reduce deforestation and address environmental crimes.
What challenges have you encountered in implementing this Resolution and what measures have you taken to overcome them?:
In the midst of the climate crisis and biodiversity loss, it is urgent to join forces to reduce deforestation and comply with the 30x30 commitment of the Convention on Biological Diversity, which seeks to protect at least 30% of Peruvian territory by 2030. Voluntary conservation is key, demonstrating that organized networks can effectively confront threats such as illegal activities, etc.
Identify and briefly describe what future actions are planned for the implementation of this Resolution:
