| Policy influencing/advocacy | Prof Nicholson represented IUCN on the UN Ad Hoc Technical Expert Group on Biodiversity Indicators for the Global Biodiversity Monitoring Frameowrk. RLE was adopted as Headline Indicator A1 of the GBF monitoring framework and the recommendations of AHTEG for implementation are currently before SBSTA. Prof Keith was invited to prepare a proposal for adoption of the IUCN Global Ecosystem Typology into the UN Family of Statistical Classifications, providing a standard frameowrk for countries to report on the status of their ecosystems. The UN Statistics Commission adpoted the GET into the Family in March 2024. |

| Scientific/technical activities | IUCN has partnered with GEO in a major new initiative to develop the Global Ecosystem Atlas. This will serve the spatial data required for countries to implement their contributions to the Global Biodiversity Framework. The RLE Thematic Group has highly influential roles on the scientific development of the Atlas, with Dr Nick Murray the scientific lead for development of the Atlas prototype and Prof David Keith colead of the Atlas Science and Technical Committee. | _none | Full activity report | |
| Scientific/technical activities | The RLE Committee for Scientific Standards was convened to undertake an update of the technical guidelines for the application of the Red List of Ecosystems categories and criteria. The revision is complete and publication of Guidelines v2.0 is in progress. GLOBAL ECOSYSTEM TYPOLOGY (GET)
- There has been a significant Convene/Networking effort, around the development of World Ecosystems Atlas, with GEO as the leader, and as result a beta version of atlas is publicly available .
- A Scientific committee for Global Ecosystem Typology has been formed, to make sure its regularly updated
- The GET has been incorporated in family of statistical classification of UN
- Crosswalk for Ecosystem typology between GET and national typologies is underway

- Adopted as a headline indicator in GBF may encourage future adaptation at the national or regional level as stated in the resolution

Challenges/obstacles encountered in the implementation of this Resolution and measures taken
Translating the IUCN Global Ecosystem Typology will be key for uptake,but has proven to be more complex than translating an ordinary publication from IUCN given that local interpretation of ecosystem names is very variable across countries with same language.
Future actions / activities needed for the implementation of this Resolution
- Mapping the Ecosystem Functional Groups and Global Ecosystems within the IUCN Global Ecosystem Typology is key for upscaling its use and application
- Develop communication material and training for the wide use of the Typology including the finalizing the translation of GET into IUCN official languages (underway) and publication of crosswalk document (also underway)
- Support national authorities for the joint application of RLE and Natural Capital Accounting
