Describe the results/achievements of the actions taken:
Several meetings were held with SALVIA to review the outcomes of Operation Jaguar. Support was also provided to WWF in disseminating regional actions for Jaguar Day on November 29.
A project proposal was jointly developed with the National Service of Protected Areas (SERNAP) to present to the IWT Challenge Fund, aiming to prevent and combat illegal wildlife trade in Bolivia and other South American countries.
Additionally, support was provided to SERNAP in developing a proposal for Tech4Nature to implement technology within protected areas to improve monitoring and surveillance, thereby strengthening actions established by Operation Jaguar.
Efforts are also underway to promote collaboration between the TRAFFIC initiative and the governments of Ecuador and Colombia to develop a project that strengthens control measures at airports to prevent the illegal trafficking of species.
The "IMPACT 2023" report by Panthera highlights significant advancements in jaguar conservation:
Habitat Protection: Panthera has secured over 2 million acres of jaguar habitat across Latin America, establishing protected areas and wildlife corridors to ensure connectivity between populations.
Anti-Poaching Initiatives: The organization has implemented anti-poaching patrols, resulting in a 50% reduction in illegal hunting activities within key jaguar territories.
Community Engagement: Collaborative efforts with local communities have led to sustainable livelihood programs, reducing human-wildlife conflict and fostering coexistence.
Research and Monitoring: Utilizing advanced technologies, Panthera has conducted extensive research on jaguar populations, contributing to a 30% increase in scientific publications related to jaguar ecology and conservation strategies.
What challenges/obstacles have been encountered in the implementation of this Resolution and how were they overcome :
The illegal trafficking of jaguar parts is linked to other serious crimes, such as the sale of tropical timber, illegal gold mining, human trafficking, drug trafficking, and money laundering, all carried out by criminal networks operating in Latin America and Asia.
Initial actions implemented have revealed jaguar trafficking networks in Bolivia, Ecuador, Peru, and Suriname, orchestrated by criminals of Chinese origin.
Briefly describe what future actions are needed for the implementation of this Resolution:
Future actions to combat jaguar trafficking include strengthening intelligence networks with advanced monitoring systems and cross-border enforcement, enhancing legal frameworks, and fostering international cooperation to disrupt trade routes, particularly between Latin America and Asia. Efforts will also focus on empowering communities through awareness campaigns, integrating technologies like drones for real-time surveillance in protected areas, and building partnerships with the private sector to secure supply chains. Additionally, research on trafficking networks and their links to other crimes will be expanded, with findings shared through platforms like TRAFFIC to inform global strategies. Securing long-term funding will ensure the sustainability of these measures, addressing both the illegal trade and its socio-economic drivers.
